Somewhere in Legoland

It is my first time to go out of the country after getting my S-pass and so, my friends and I went to Malaysia over the weekend. We went to Hello Kitty Town and Legoland, both of which are located in Johor Bahru which is more or less 10 minutes away from Singapore (30 minutes away if coming from the flat).

What I loved the most is that the food is less expensive (value for the money, right) and it is so close to Singapore that you could reach it via a bus ride. It is pretty convenient for a short getaway even on an ordinary weekend.

I love Lego's. More so, I love the idea of building something awesome out of nothing but tiny blocks. The sky is the limit especially if you are patient and feeling extra creative. The theme park is a manifestation of all that and that idea alone impresses me.

The Miniland park composing of various landmarks is one of the main attractions of the place.

All made with LEGOs!

It is not too crowded when we went there but the weather is really hot making it almost impossible to visit all the shops and go for the adult rides. Most of the rides/activities are for kids so we really did not get to try all of them. Some rides are even closed for maintenance (Boo ya!) and construction (Ninjago area) but it did not stop us from enjoying the whole experience.

My friend and I get to ride on The Dragon. Well, no biggies as there are no loops but it was really fun with just the two of us the whole minute of it like we rented the whole ride for our own and we are even seated in front.

#KunwariLongLegged

The Castle is my favourite because it gives off a Game of Thrones and Harry Potter vibes. Of course, we took so many photos while we are at it.

I may not be the biggest Star Wars fan but the Miniland dedicated to the film is so rad. It is one of my favourites.

Also, we were able to go to the Lego Mindstorms and although we lack the time to actually participate, I pretty much enjoyed reminiscing the major plot of The Lego Movie which is the theme of the robot programming activity.

All in all, it was pretty exhausting but it is nothing compared to the loads of fun from the good company and catching up over good food and a good place.

Weekend well spent, it is.

Discovering Carousell

I was looking for a perfect gift for my cousin and I came upon  Carousell , an online shop where you could buy anything ranging from the tech stuff up to the most random of dresses, house accessories and the likes.

She loves One Direction so much and of course, me being the supportive cousin (a fangirl at the same time) did not miss the opportunity to get her a pretty special memorabilia. A COLLECTOR'S DOLL! Dolls, technically, as I got her a Harry and a Louis.

I got a Zayn for myself.

Contemplating on buying a Liam so that Zayn won't feel alone as Harry and Louis are now sent back home in the Philippines, in my cousin's arms. Niall doll is not available on the advert, too bad. I would have gotten one as well.

Anyway, it is my first time to do such thing here in Singapore (or ever. Usually I am just asking a friend for a favor to buy me stuff online). I did pay in cash but still, it was an advert from an online shop. I am still not very keen on the idea of purchasing things online but the first time has been a nice experience so far. The seller is very kind and accommodating and he even delivered the goods straight to our flat. So I asked him why does he own One Direction dolls (he doesn't look like the type who would own one or eight for that matter because he's got two sets minus Niall.) and told me he got it from a warehouse sale. I have been planning to buy a singing doll in 1D World Japan but it's expensive/not practical (It will cost at least 2000php for a singing doll and WHOA? I know, right?). Luckily I found these collector's dolls online and what a bargain (I got Zourry dolls for 15 SGD each).

I think I might have to sew Zayn a new jacket because, you know. ;)

NEW SONG ALERT: Hurricane by Alex Marshall

The long wait is over as it is FINALLY here! Alex Marshall has finally released his first solo single, Hurricane and it's been a jam. I am so proud.

I was one of those who was sad when he officially left The Cab and I even found out about it the day of the meet-up organized by The Cab PH Street Team (Bea and Lara). While it was sad I also was happy as he is now finally pursuing the music that would truly showcase his talents and he's got so many things up on his sleeves.

So I waited.

Two years of it.

And the wait is finally over.

And man, the R&B/Soul vibe suited him well.

It definitely gives you that Justin Timberlake feels. The lyrics and his voice, angsty and powerful. He's been behind the keyboard/guitar for years and who would have thought we are actually so deprived of this man? He's got so much to offer and he's finally blessing the world with his craft. If anything I look forward to hearing the full record although I do not know the exact release date at the moment.

I was privileged enough to getting the chance to chat with him a bit (He really is the nicest. Also, #kilig) and I am stoked for what is ahead.

All the best to you, Alex Marshall. We got your back, babe.

Here's the link to the video (Yes, he's released a music video as well. What a great day.) It showed snippets of a love that's definitely like a hurricane. (He's so fit and well, the shower scene. I am a goner. And he sounded real good, so..)

And don't forget to buy Hurricane on iTunes and follow him on his Twitter for updates! You won't regret it. I promise.

FaceTime-ing The Alex Marshall

ALEX MARSHALL IS THE NICEST HUMAN BEING. CONFIRMED.

A photo posted by April Ann (@aprilskelter) on

Formerly a member of The Cab, Alex Marshall left and (was sad then but happy now that he's) worked on his solo stuff about two years ago and now he's released a single called Hurricane and I love it!

I know he's been FaceTime-ing fans in the past (I did text him via iMessage and he replied) but never would I have thought that I'd find the courage to call him (while I am a social butterfly, I'm actually shy haha). Also, "I'll probably just end up staring at his beautiful face," I thought. Michelle, due to my constant bugging (and she being a fan of their music when he was still in the band) called before me, and I really want to congratulate Alex personally so...screw everything, I ended up calling him through the number that he's posted online, even though I was in the office/at work.

I just dialed the number and he was like, "Why is it just audio?" and I told him that I am in the office/at work and that's it's past eleven in the morning and I have work on Saturdays (Actually I really am just nervous and shy I am actually surprised I pushed through with it). And although he probably doesn't not care about the "me" things and his face almost says "You have work on a Saturday?", he being the sweetest just listened. (Or he probably didn't hear my rant as I must be eating my words and mostly stuttering. ha)

I turned the camera on and I saw his face and I internally freaked out thinking, "Man, I'm really doing this, then? I'm really going to talk to him? THE ALEX MARSHALL for crying out loud!" I said the most awkward "Hiiiii!" ever but he being so down-to-earth and chill made me relax to his presence.

We talked about his single, Hurricane (which is currently on repeat). I congratulated him and thanked him and told him how proud I was that finally we were able to see/hear the fruit of his hard work. "It's been too long, eh?" Yes, Alex. It has been, really. And the day has finally come.

Stupid me forgot to ask about his feelings regarding the release of his single, working with Kari, writing his songs and I was not even able to greet him a happy belated birthday. But we talked about the most random stuff and even though it's just like five to ten minutes, it felt longer as he's very warm and accommodating.

He really love and miss Manila, I learned and the mangoes as was evident on his face when I mentioned I was originally from there. I am from Bulacan, technically but I lived in Manila for quite a few years also before moving here in Singapore for work. We talked more about Singapore and he's recalled how he also loved their stay in here and went on sharing about chewing gums and how clean the place was.

We talked about how supportive his Manila street team is and how they plan about radio promotions (RX 93.1 specifically, of which I vowed to help request and vote for his song) and possible tours as he cannot wait to come back.

My favourite part of the conversation was when he asked me, "Where are you?" and I thought he's asking for the place again so I answered, "I'm in Singapore but I am really from Manila."
"No, I mean why is it so bright?"
"Oh, I am in the office."

And I showed him around. He even waved at my officemate haha. And then there's this realisation on his face like, "Oh, she really is at work."

Then we had to cut it short because apparently I am at work but it was a real nice talk. We said our goodbyes and I wished him luck.

He probably won't remember me from the many fans that he's talked and interacted with but I will forever treasure this moment. And while Joey Thunder is my favourite (now also former) The Cab guy, I am so proud of Alex Marshall (he's close second) and I look forward to hearing what he's worked on in full.

Cannot wait.

"Loving you is like hurricane."

#Frenship

Sometimes I miss having a Josh Dun to my Tyler Joseph. But I realised God gave a Jack Barakat, Rian Dawson and Zac Merrick to my Alex Gaskarth and I couldn't have been more grateful.

We meet different people in every stages of our lives and some tend to stick more than the others. In a way, we long for familiarity. We seek for relationships, love and care that are not necessarily sexual. If we are lucky enough, we would meet our match/matches. Enter the best friend/s.

It feels like finding that certain person who will provide you that platonic comfort in this overtly sexual world. It's the excitement of having a long day in school/work knowing that somebody is going to listen to your stories; Stories of how your day went even if it has been bland (almost like a routine) but you eagerly narrate because that's what friends do. They talk. The conversations just flow effortlessly. It is having to share the light to someone of the same wavelength and Î»Î½ = c (light equation; read: me trying to be punny) just made sense.

It's you getting to be you without being judged. Who am I kidding, it's you being judged and bullied every single day but not minding it because they accept you and your quirks wholeheartedly. They are also the same people who would immediately come at your defense should the judgments originate from someone who is not a part of your squad.

(Note: I realised bullying is such a triggering word so, I apologize. It is wrong. It could be destructing and should not be tolerated by any means. However, me and my friends knew each other very well that we do not easily take offense / we know up to which extent a certain retort can affect our kin so there's that.)

It's you getting to sing off-key at the top of your lungs and experience the best concerts / music festivals with the comfort of sharing the same enthusiasm with him/her/them. It's you getting to take selfies and pose wackily and you/them supporting your non-existent but well-loved modeling career. It's you trying out every matcha in town and you pigging out even when you all have mutually discussed that you need to go on a diet.

It's you enjoying life.

And who says you are limited to just one?

It's them who balance the calm and the storm.

It's them who understand even in your silence and the distance.

It's them who may not to get to check on you everyday and vice versa but can still pick up the pieces from where you left off.

It's the maturity that goes with the years of being together, no matter how unconventional the friendship has started (knowing how social media and the internet are the major factors these days.) It's the give and take, and growing together.

It is the unlabeled familiarity that is rooted from nothing but love.

The All Time Low boys, for example, have been friends since high school but even with a friendship that is rooted from long ago cannot be perfect. Heaven knows how many bro brawls they probably had behind the curtains. There are probably just as many differences as there are similarities and yet they are making it work. Not everyone has been that lucky so we should treasure ours just as much.

But like any other relationships, there will be fallout and sadly, you cannot salvage all of the good ones. Some will get disengaged as quick as acquiring the connection that you had with them and they will be out of your lives for quite some time (sometimes even for good) without you knowing it.

One time you will both be on your prime, soaring together, until you are not on the same ground anymore. They needed to spread their wings for full potential and you had to let them find it on another group or person. And you will let them because you know that you both needed it.

Sometimes, the one who will be needing to explore could also be you.

Because you depended too much that you lose track of the many other relationships that is also vital for your optimal growth.
You are stuck.
You trusted too much.
You stirred conflicts and apparently you are/the other person is not ready to face the consequences of your words and your actions.

You still grow... but apart this time.

And that is also okay.

Some will make a comeback sometime in the future and you may not know the reason behind it, but accept them anyway. Choosing love over past misunderstandings is beneficial for both sides, you'll see.

It's the maturity that goes with the years of being together, no matter how unconventional the friendship has started.

The best friend bubble is good but look further and you will realise just how many kindred souls are just there waiting for you to share a bit of yourself with them.

I will be totally honest. I miss having that one best friend whom like Josh Dun and Tyler Joseph can scream to the world that ''I AM HIS/HER BEST FRIEND!" and all that. But I realised God gave a Jack Barakat, Rian Dawson and Zac Merrick to my Alex Gaskarth and I couldn't have been more grateful.

I've been praying to have one but I prayed wrongly. I asked for a person. I forgot He always go large and He gave me people. Life has never been better.

Whether it's with a group or just someone, you will not feel like you are missing out on your relationships. You just get exposed to another reality in life: You lose some, you get some. Sometimes, you get even more.

And who doesn't want that, right?

Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun (Twenty One Pilots) are #BFFGoals. Blog title is from how they spell friendship and  I just think it's rad so...yeah.

While it is good to have that one go-to person and it may not have started a long way as high school for the All Time Low boys but having three or more diverse friendships is also great blessing. Maybe I'm just feeling homesick (also physically under the weather, nursing a cough) and I miss my friends back home....erm, that's about right. So, hello, friends (also to those not pictured). Hope all is well.

Love Is Love

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
1 Corinthians 13:13 NIVUK

If anyone ever needs to be reminded of God's overflowing love that goes beyond any gender/sexual orientation, ethnicity and religion, here you go. Love is powerful. Love always wins. Love is love.

Of Work and Other Perspectives

Not to sound conceited or anything but I know for a fact (and my friends can attest to it) that I am generally a nice person.... but certainly a bitch if provoked. And yesterday I just... kind of snapped. At that moment it felt like everything is too much.

I tried to put myself on this person's shoes. I tried to give this person the benefit of the doubt. In my mind I was singing (though on a different connotation than the song) "Holding my breath until I know you're alright because the water will only rise. When will you realize you must become an island? And see for yourself that that's what I am." Okay, maybe not an island (nor I will ever be) but I always work on improving myself and not fully depend on others.

Inasmuch as I wanted to help this person, one can only give so many assistance to someone who seemed like they are not interested in helping themselves. Even the nicest person will snap. Being the only one who is willing to adjust on the circumstances can also be sickening.  We cannot be spoon-fed all the time, can we? We are not students anymore. But we should never stop being learners in the bigger school called life. We are professionals and we should act... rather we should be one. At the same time, we need to learn that the world does not revolve around us and we need to be able to adapt (slowly as it may seem) and not expect everything to be handed out so easily. So when are we going to find the courage to go all out and work harder to achieve our goals? The world will not wait for us so we had to do something about it. Read and read. Ask sensible questions. Explore. Speak our minds out.

Does it feel good? At first, maybe. But my heart feels heavy as it went on. I actually felt bad for letting myself lose the chill that I have been working on maintaining for most of my young adult life. I wish I have been more patient and understanding. I wish I have considered all the other factors. But I knew for a fact that if I will not call this person out, no one will. And so I had to do it.

One can only tolerate ignorance and stupity at an extent and anything beyond the invisible boundary line is classified as unnecessary stress that one should get rid of given the chance. I am not saying that you should snap at any person who'd piss you off unintentionally but at some point you had to release it. Luckily for me, I have my family and friends who see behind the strong mask and know when to take charge. They may not always be aware of it (I may not be very vocal about it all the time) but every little deed (the listening heart and the spoken words) is of great help. I am grateful to God for using their lives to anchor me back and put some perspective in this already clouded mind. So they let me talk (rant) about it and then we went to shop and hang a bit. It definitely made me feel better. It may not change the fact that it was the worst that it has been in the almost two months of work but I was reminded to be more patient and understanding. And to focus on the goals instead.

The girl is back, battle-ready, with extra motivation and prayers of peace and clarity in her pockets.
