Throwback Hit: Woman by John Lennon
I was having a rather laid back Sunday and was browsing Spotify (who would have thought I would be sort of hooked with this application) for some late night tunes when I came upon this playlist which features the hits of the legendary John Lennon, also known as my favourite Beatle. His solo works along with all the records of The Beatles were recently remastered for digital release and online streaming purposes much to this girl's delight.
I remembered when one of my former colleagues at work has mentioned how Woman is really good and of how I thought he was referring to She's A Woman because I do not have John Lennon's post-Beatle songs' full discography then. Hearing the song, though, I figured that I have previously heard of it but is apparently just not aware of its title (it happens all the time, eh?) and I have to agree, this song is so beautiful.
Woman is released as a single off the album Double Fantasy in January 12, 1981 in the States (OMG! That's Zayn's birthday!) It may be is originally written for Yoko Ono, John's one true love, but you just cannot help but feel for the sincerity and the love. Its lyrics is very straightforward ("I love you (yeah, yeah) now and forever / I love you (yeah, yeah) now and forever" Stop it, John! I'm getting jealous over here!). It is almost a breathe of fresh air from all his trivial masterpieces in the past. His brilliance is never lost.
As for the full lyrics:
Woman I can hardly express,
My mixed emotion at my thoughtlessness,
After all I'm forever in your debt,
And woman I will try express,
My inner feelings and thankfulness,
For showing me the meaning of success,
oooh well, well,
oooh well, well,
Woman I know you understand
The little child inside the man,
Please remember my life is in your hands,
And woman hold me close to your heart,
However, distant don't keep us apart,
After all it is written in the stars,
oooh well, well,
oooh well, well,
Woman please let me explain,
I never mean(t) to cause you sorrow or pain,
So let me tell you again and again and again,
I love you (yeah, yeah) now and forever,
I love you (yeah, yeah) now and forever,
I love you (yeah, yeah) now and forever,
I love you (yeah, yeah)....
Dreamy sigh. Can I have a John Lennon, please?

PS: So I am just trying out this new thing/section for the blog, like my LSS (Last Song Syndrome) of the week or something. I think I might do more Throwback Hits on my future entries to feed this old soul of mine, and put some trivia and stuff that hopefully you, readers might also enjoy. Til then!
