Day 10: A Book That Reminds You of Home

It could easily have been Harry Potter: a home far from reality but is also as real as it can be, if that makes any sense. But if there is one book that I have recently read that has not just reminded me but really brought me back "home", I'd say it is Emily  P. Freeman's Graceful (For Young Women): Trying to Let Go of Your Try-Hard Life. The title in itself is a dead giveaway, innit?

It has reminded me of this child of God that we all are, of this relationship that we should put up first and that is with Him, of course. We all have fears of which are hidden behind our strong persona, our active lifestyle, the smiles we efortlessly give away to our family, friends and even to strangers, the hard work that we always exert. She's even classified the kind of "good girls" that we hide our real selves with through anecdotes that will make you understand yourself a bit more. She's listed out most if not all of our major worries in life ( the following are some concepts/excerpts from the book):

We worry about not being enough.
We worry about what other people will think.
We fear about not making a difference.
We fear our weaknesses.
We fear about being invisible and being taken for granted.
We are afraid of not getting things right.
We are afraid of criticisms.
We are afraid of missing out.

We all try to be the "good" one. No, we all wanted to be the "best" one. But how are we going to be able to be so if we are apparently hollow inside most of the time? We can be successful in our endeavours but are we really happy?

Freeman reminds us to stop trying and start to be more trusting to Jesus Christ our Saviour as He is the only one who can give us courage in facing all of the said fears. To be honest, it is very liberating knowing that we always have Him on our side. It's like a redirection back on track to our home and well, that's a good start... for now.

Keep on seeking for Him. Keep walking with Him.
