NEW SONG ALERT: Heathens by twenty one pilots

15:28:00 APRILSKELTER 0 Comments

What I like the most about Twenty One Pilots is that their music makes you ponder about so many things. It's sincere and it makes you vulnerable to the "truths" whichever truth that you believe in, that is. It is powerful, highlighted by Tyler Joseph's soul-stirring voice and Joshua Dun's fervent drumming antics. (Also, because Tyler and Josh are #besfrengoals).

It makes you question.
It stirs something inside you (not even exaggerating).
It calms.
It makes you feel things, so to speak.

Heathens is one of those TOP masterpieces and it can be interpreted on so many ways.

It could be being on a clique and getting judged by the society.

It could be living the Christian life no matter how unconventional it may look to the public, and reflect His ways and His love through the life that you live instead of shoving up you beliefs up people's arses. (Everything you were taught can be put into a few words: Respect and obey God! This is what life is all about. (Ecc.12:13))

It could be standing up for what you believe in and a reminder that even when you feel like you know a person, you still do not know all the sides of a certain story.

It could be many things. Dope things.

All my friends are heathens, take it slow
Wait for them to ask you who you know
Please don't make any sudden moves
You don't know the half of the abuse
All my friends are heathens, take it slow
Wait for them to ask you who you know
Please don't make any sudden moves
You don't know the half of the abuse

Welcome to the room of people
Who have rooms of people that they loved one day
Docked away
Just because we check the guns at the door
Doesn't mean our brains will change from hand grenades
You're lovin' on the psychopath sitting next to you
You're lovin' on the murderer sitting next to you
You'll think, "How'd I get here, sitting next to you?"
But after all I've said, please don't forget

All my friends are heathens, take it slow
Wait for them to ask you who you know
Please don't make any sudden moves
You don't know the half of the abuse

We don't deal with outsiders very well
They say newcomers have a certain smell
Yeah, I trust issues, not to mention
They say they can smell your intentions
You're lovin' on the freakshow sitting next to you
You'll have some weird people sitting next to you
You'll think "How did I get here, sitting next to you?"
But after all I've said, please don't forget
(Watch it, watch it)

All my friends are heathens, take it slow
Wait for them to ask you who you know
Please don't make any sudden moves
You don't know the half of the abuse

All my friends are heathens, take it slow
(Watch it)
Wait for them to ask you who you know
(Watch it)
All my friends are heathens, take it slow
(Watch it)
Wait for them to ask you who you know
(Watch it)

Why'd you come, you knew you should have stayed
(It's blasphemy)
I tried to warn you just to stay away
And now they're outside ready to bust
It looks like you might be one of us

Heathens is actually one of the soundtracks of Suicide Squad (a film that will be out next month) and I really look forward to seeing the film. It excites me to see Jared Leto as The Joker and there's the ever badass Harley Quinn as well. Plus, Bohemian Rhapsody by Panic! At The Disco is included on the official soundtrack and what an actual treat that is, eh?

Do check the rad trailer below:

#ThankYouTD

It should not come as a major surprise to me as he is already 40 years old and had played in his prime but I never would have figured (or I just refuse to believe) that it will be this soon. And so, Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs has announced his retirement after seventeen glorious seasons in a very Tim Duncan way: low-key, classy and heartfelt.

TIMMY BY THE NUMBERS

Being a true blue basketball fan that I am, I must admit he and Tony Parker have started the obsession for me, at least in the NBA. There is so much connection in there that despite being boring the Spurs team as some would say, they stood out to me.

He taught me that it is not just about having the talent and capacity to do things that would get you to the top, but it is hard work and humility. There is no need for trash talk as actions will speak more than anything. He is the best power forward that there is in his time and he deserved all the respect.

He is and will always be one of the greatest Spurs players the world has ever known.

Timmy's retirement letter. Thank you, Big Guy!

What I am going to miss the most is the partnership that he had with Tony Parker. Add Manu Ginobili and you will get the best (at least for me) Big Three out there. They have brought out the best in each other while putting the Spurs on a pedestal in the West.

Next year it will be Manu. In a few, Tony will, too. (In the PBA, my Jayjay Helterbrand will soon hang the jersey for good as well.) We really are getting old. ha

But here's to the Big Fundamental.

Thank you for being you.

Much love,

Somewhere in Legoland

16:38:00 APRILSKELTER 0 Comments

It is my first time to go out of the country after getting my S-pass and so, my friends and I went to Malaysia over the weekend. We went to Hello Kitty Town and Legoland, both of which are located in Johor Bahru which is more or less 10 minutes away from Singapore (30 minutes away if coming from the flat).

What I loved the most is that the food is less expensive (value for the money, right) and it is so close to Singapore that you could reach it via a bus ride. It is pretty convenient for a short getaway even on an ordinary weekend.

I love Lego's. More so, I love the idea of building something awesome out of nothing but tiny blocks. The sky is the limit especially if you are patient and feeling extra creative. The theme park is a manifestation of all that and that idea alone impresses me.

The Miniland park composing of various landmarks is one of the main attractions of the place.

All made with LEGOs!

It is not too crowded when we went there but the weather is really hot making it almost impossible to visit all the shops and go for the adult rides. Most of the rides/activities are for kids so we really did not get to try all of them. Some rides are even closed for maintenance (Boo ya!) and construction (Ninjago area) but it did not stop us from enjoying the whole experience.

My friend and I get to ride on The Dragon. Well, no biggies as there are no loops but it was really fun with just the two of us the whole minute of it like we rented the whole ride for our own and we are even seated in front.

#KunwariLongLegged

The Castle is my favourite because it gives off a Game of Thrones and Harry Potter vibes. Of course, we took so many photos while we are at it.

I may not be the biggest Star Wars fan but the Miniland dedicated to the film is so rad. It is one of my favourites.

Also, we were able to go to the Lego Mindstorms and although we lack the time to actually participate, I pretty much enjoyed reminiscing the major plot of The Lego Movie which is the theme of the robot programming activity.

All in all, it was pretty exhausting but it is nothing compared to the loads of fun from the good company and catching up over good food and a good place.

Weekend well spent, it is.

Discovering Carousell

11:20:00 APRILSKELTER 0 Comments

I was looking for a perfect gift for my cousin and I came upon  Carousell , an online shop where you could buy anything ranging from the tech stuff up to the most random of dresses, house accessories and the likes.

She loves One Direction so much and of course, me being the supportive cousin (a fangirl at the same time) did not miss the opportunity to get her a pretty special memorabilia. A COLLECTOR'S DOLL! Dolls, technically, as I got her a Harry and a Louis.

I got a Zayn for myself.

Contemplating on buying a Liam so that Zayn won't feel alone as Harry and Louis are now sent back home in the Philippines, in my cousin's arms. Niall doll is not available on the advert, too bad. I would have gotten one as well.

Anyway, it is my first time to do such thing here in Singapore (or ever. Usually I am just asking a friend for a favor to buy me stuff online). I did pay in cash but still, it was an advert from an online shop. I am still not very keen on the idea of purchasing things online but the first time has been a nice experience so far. The seller is very kind and accommodating and he even delivered the goods straight to our flat. So I asked him why does he own One Direction dolls (he doesn't look like the type who would own one or eight for that matter because he's got two sets minus Niall.) and told me he got it from a warehouse sale. I have been planning to buy a singing doll in 1D World Japan but it's expensive/not practical (It will cost at least 2000php for a singing doll and WHOA? I know, right?). Luckily I found these collector's dolls online and what a bargain (I got Zourry dolls for 15 SGD each).

I think I might have to sew Zayn a new jacket because, you know. ;)

NEW SONG ALERT: Hurricane by Alex Marshall

19:16:00 APRILSKELTER 0 Comments

The long wait is over as it is FINALLY here! Alex Marshall has finally released his first solo single, Hurricane and it's been a jam. I am so proud.

I was one of those who was sad when he officially left The Cab and I even found out about it the day of the meet-up organized by The Cab PH Street Team (Bea and Lara). While it was sad I also was happy as he is now finally pursuing the music that would truly showcase his talents and he's got so many things up on his sleeves.

So I waited.

Two years of it.

And the wait is finally over.

And man, the R&B/Soul vibe suited him well.

It definitely gives you that Justin Timberlake feels. The lyrics and his voice, angsty and powerful. He's been behind the keyboard/guitar for years and who would have thought we are actually so deprived of this man? He's got so much to offer and he's finally blessing the world with his craft. If anything I look forward to hearing the full record although I do not know the exact release date at the moment.

I was privileged enough to getting the chance to chat with him a bit (He really is the nicest. Also, #kilig) and I am stoked for what is ahead.

All the best to you, Alex Marshall. We got your back, babe.

Here's the link to the video (Yes, he's released a music video as well. What a great day.) It showed snippets of a love that's definitely like a hurricane. (He's so fit and well, the shower scene. I am a goner. And he sounded real good, so..)

And don't forget to buy Hurricane on iTunes and follow him on his Twitter for updates! You won't regret it. I promise.

FaceTime-ing The Alex Marshall

19:14:00 APRILSKELTER 0 Comments

ALEX MARSHALL IS THE NICEST HUMAN BEING. CONFIRMED.

A photo posted by April Ann (@aprilskelter) on

Formerly a member of The Cab, Alex Marshall left and (was sad then but happy now that he's) worked on his solo stuff about two years ago and now he's released a single called Hurricane and I love it!

I know he's been FaceTime-ing fans in the past (I did text him via iMessage and he replied) but never would I have thought that I'd find the courage to call him (while I am a social butterfly, I'm actually shy haha). Also, "I'll probably just end up staring at his beautiful face," I thought. Michelle, due to my constant bugging (and she being a fan of their music when he was still in the band) called before me, and I really want to congratulate Alex personally so...screw everything, I ended up calling him through the number that he's posted online, even though I was in the office/at work.

I just dialed the number and he was like, "Why is it just audio?" and I told him that I am in the office/at work and that's it's past eleven in the morning and I have work on Saturdays (Actually I really am just nervous and shy I am actually surprised I pushed through with it). And although he probably doesn't not care about the "me" things and his face almost says "You have work on a Saturday?", he being the sweetest just listened. (Or he probably didn't hear my rant as I must be eating my words and mostly stuttering. ha)

I turned the camera on and I saw his face and I internally freaked out thinking, "Man, I'm really doing this, then? I'm really going to talk to him? THE ALEX MARSHALL for crying out loud!" I said the most awkward "Hiiiii!" ever but he being so down-to-earth and chill made me relax to his presence.

We talked about his single, Hurricane (which is currently on repeat). I congratulated him and thanked him and told him how proud I was that finally we were able to see/hear the fruit of his hard work. "It's been too long, eh?" Yes, Alex. It has been, really. And the day has finally come.

Stupid me forgot to ask about his feelings regarding the release of his single, working with Kari, writing his songs and I was not even able to greet him a happy belated birthday. But we talked about the most random stuff and even though it's just like five to ten minutes, it felt longer as he's very warm and accommodating.

He really love and miss Manila, I learned and the mangoes as was evident on his face when I mentioned I was originally from there. I am from Bulacan, technically but I lived in Manila for quite a few years also before moving here in Singapore for work. We talked more about Singapore and he's recalled how he also loved their stay in here and went on sharing about chewing gums and how clean the place was.

We talked about how supportive his Manila street team is and how they plan about radio promotions (RX 93.1 specifically, of which I vowed to help request and vote for his song) and possible tours as he cannot wait to come back.

My favourite part of the conversation was when he asked me, "Where are you?" and I thought he's asking for the place again so I answered, "I'm in Singapore but I am really from Manila."
"No, I mean why is it so bright?"
"Oh, I am in the office."

And I showed him around. He even waved at my officemate haha. And then there's this realisation on his face like, "Oh, she really is at work."

Then we had to cut it short because apparently I am at work but it was a real nice talk. We said our goodbyes and I wished him luck.

He probably won't remember me from the many fans that he's talked and interacted with but I will forever treasure this moment. And while Joey Thunder is my favourite (now also former) The Cab guy, I am so proud of Alex Marshall (he's close second) and I look forward to hearing what he's worked on in full.

Cannot wait.
