FaceTime-ing The Alex Marshall

ALEX MARSHALL IS THE NICEST HUMAN BEING. CONFIRMED.

Formerly a member of The Cab, Alex Marshall left and (was sad then but happy now that he's) worked on his solo stuff about two years ago and now he's released a single called Hurricane and I love it!

I know he's been FaceTime-ing fans in the past (I did text him via iMessage and he replied) but never would I have thought that I'd find the courage to call him (while I am a social butterfly, I'm actually shy haha). Also, "I'll probably just end up staring at his beautiful face," I thought. Michelle, due to my constant bugging (and she being a fan of their music when he was still in the band) called before me, and I really want to congratulate Alex personally so...screw everything, I ended up calling him through the number that he's posted online, even though I was in the office/at work.

I just dialed the number and he was like, "Why is it just audio?" and I told him that I am in the office/at work and that's it's past eleven in the morning and I have work on Saturdays (Actually I really am just nervous and shy I am actually surprised I pushed through with it). And although he probably doesn't not care about the "me" things and his face almost says "You have work on a Saturday?", he being the sweetest just listened. (Or he probably didn't hear my rant as I must be eating my words and mostly stuttering. ha)

I turned the camera on and I saw his face and I internally freaked out thinking, "Man, I'm really doing this, then? I'm really going to talk to him? THE ALEX MARSHALL for crying out loud!" I said the most awkward "Hiiiii!" ever but he being so down-to-earth and chill made me relax to his presence.

We talked about his single, Hurricane (which is currently on repeat). I congratulated him and thanked him and told him how proud I was that finally we were able to see/hear the fruit of his hard work. "It's been too long, eh?" Yes, Alex. It has been, really. And the day has finally come.

Stupid me forgot to ask about his feelings regarding the release of his single, working with Kari, writing his songs and I was not even able to greet him a happy belated birthday. But we talked about the most random stuff and even though it's just like five to ten minutes, it felt longer as he's very warm and accommodating.

He really love and miss Manila, I learned and the mangoes as was evident on his face when I mentioned I was originally from there. I am from Bulacan, technically but I lived in Manila for quite a few years also before moving here in Singapore for work. We talked more about Singapore and he's recalled how he also loved their stay in here and went on sharing about chewing gums and how clean the place was.

We talked about how supportive his Manila street team is and how they plan about radio promotions (RX 93.1 specifically, of which I vowed to help request and vote for his song) and possible tours as he cannot wait to come back.

My favourite part of the conversation was when he asked me, "Where are you?" and I thought he's asking for the place again so I answered, "I'm in Singapore but I am really from Manila."
"No, I mean why is it so bright?"
"Oh, I am in the office."

And I showed him around. He even waved at my officemate haha. And then there's this realisation on his face like, "Oh, she really is at work."

Then we had to cut it short because apparently I am at work but it was a real nice talk. We said our goodbyes and I wished him luck.

He probably won't remember me from the many fans that he's talked and interacted with but I will forever treasure this moment. And while Joey Thunder is my favourite (now also former) The Cab guy, I am so proud of Alex Marshall (he's close second) and I look forward to hearing what he's worked on in full.

Cannot wait.

x

"Loving you is like hurricane."
